Hibernation by dragonchickenmonster Hibernation by dragonchickenmonster
So the drawing program I used to use won't work on my new computer. :P

This is my first attempt at drawing something on Photoshop Elements and I'm starting to get the hang of it. It's not as bad as I thought it would turn out.

I'm actually really proud of this.

So tell me what you guys think.

Also any Photoshop tips would be greatly appreciated because I know there's tons of neat things you can do and all I use is the basic brush, 2 or 3 layers, and that's about it.

This is for =ElephantWendigo's Slice of Life in Winter contest.

The link to the journal about the contest is here: [link]

Oh, wow. It's James, and you should be proud this is fantastic! Tips from me I guess would be to look into getting a decent brush palate. It is kinda annoying at the start looking for brushes or creating your own, but once you get a good set you'll thank yourself for the time. It never hurts to learn about the other features of the software you are using so you can do a little tweaking on the side, it's one of the best things about digital art. And layers, lots of them.

Layers.... But I don't comprehend. Like how many is lots? Would 5 or 6 be lots? Brushes... bah

Nah I'll take the advice :) How does one accomplish this fabled "getting of a decent brush palate"?

You finished it!
I love how it turned out, especially the trees and the fabric.
The only advice I have is LAYERS LAYERS LAYERS!!!

But layers are so... seemingly useless. My feeble mind cannot comprehend how they would be useful!

Layers separate things, so you can apply many different options to the same base drawing. In my particular brand of art they are often used to separate effects from each other. If you want one layer to be translucent or glowing or whatever, you need it to be separate from the rest of the drawing. If you are incorporating many separate parts to something you would also use layers to adjust everything to the best fit.

Hardly! There's good if you don't wanna screw up everything when you change one thing. Or if you have multiple superhero costumes :P
